Victoria & Jeffrey

Tell us a little bit about yourself!
Maybe some of your hobbies or your passions, your work, your family, your pets, activities you like to do or what inspires you!)
I work in the home improvement industry be it construction, home design, decorating, landscaping, or custom art for living spaces. Literally anything to do with improving the quality of life at home is my passion: de-cluttering, reorganizing, redecorating, rethinking space.
How did you choose your wedding dress and what made it “you"?
I first found L&L through Pinterest adn the amazing "Wonderland Skirt," which I was sure I was going to where, but somehow ended up going with teh soho skirt. As a female construction worker I wanted to slim down some of my muscle and bulk and I thought the "Soho skirt" would do that then the magical "Wonderland skirt" and all it's organza beauty. I also liked the simple elegance of the "soho skirt."
Tell us a little about you and your partner’s story?
Jeffrey and I met in 2011 over winter vacation between school terms; there was an initial spark and we spent almost everyday together that January. However, neither of us had finished college and we were studying on opposite sides of the country. So, instead of trying for the long-distance-relationship, we wrote the occasional letter and got coffee whenever we were in the same zip code. Over time, we discovered many similarities between us: we had many mutual friends, had gone to the same high school, I had played soccer with his sister growing up and my parents lived 2 miles from his parents. Later, in March 2016--after being out of touch for a year or more--I randomly invited him to attend a Shakespeare play with me (Macbeth), which he couldn't attend, but through that invitation we rekindle our friendship through coffee dates, Marvel movies, and the accumulation of power tools. Jeff's proposal was not your typical down-on-one-knee kind of deal. Infact, it was more of a casual drop into the conversation. This nonchalant proposal happened more than once and became an almost daily conversation between us. It had only been a month of kind-of-dating so I shied away from giving him a diffinitive answer, but on April 12th 2016, I'd made up my mind. My decision came tumbling out me one morning when I was having coffee with my mom (and bestfriend). I meant to let Jeff know that I had accepted first before alerting my parents to this life changing decision i had come to...but I was too excited and it got away from me. So, I had to explain to Jeff that I had told my mom that he had proposed and I had acccepted yada yada yada and ask Jeff to talk to my father, which was really important to me. My snap decision really put Jeff on the spot, but he was gracious and wonderful, while taking it all in and taking with my family. We spent 2016 engaged and got married, May 13, 2017!!!

What was your wedding like and what was a most memorable moment?
I LOVED my wedding, the most important part of the wedding for me was the music, ambiance and decorations so a lot of my personal effort went into hand-making pennants etc and finiding a classy, live jazz band. On the other hand, Jeff's main desire was to have a good espresso bar and delicious cake. I think we were able to achieve all of our goals and had such an amazing wedding. And, just to brag, I got lots of compliments on the decor!!! We had a total of 140 people and decided to do the ceremony and reception all-in-one at Lucie Stern Community Center. The ceremony took place in their beautiful, grassy patio followed by coffee and cocktails in the courtyard and the main reception in the ballroom.
What was the most challenging part of your wedding planning process and any advice for future L&L brides?
Honeslty, the wedding planning by itself was simple, but my emotional involvement in the process made it very difficult for me to calmly deal with different facets of the planning without being overwhelmed by the "big picture." It took me from September to December to wrap my had around everything that had to be done; and by early February I had put on my big girl pants and started blowing through everything and checking of the list. My main goal was to economize and still have a beautiful and fun wedding. So, I enlisted an army of women to help with bulk flower decor, altar decor, venue decor, table setting, etc etc etc. My wedding came in less than 20k, which I was really happy about since California Bay Area wedding vendors are incredibly pricey!!!
